What Causes Dry Eye Disease?
Most cases of dry eye are caused by a problem with the meibomian glands in the upper and lower eyelids. These glands are responsible for producing oils that prevent the tears on the surface of the eyes from evaporating too quickly.
With meibomian gland dysfunction, the glands do not produce enough of these oils, so the tears evaporate prematurely. The affected glands become inflamed and the oils (called meibum) thicken, restricting or blocking the gland secretions. Over time, these glands may permanently die if not treated.
Dry eye is a chronic and progressive disease; without treatment intervention, the symptoms will continue to worsen. In the case of meibomian gland dysfunction, when the glands no longer function properly, they can eventually atrophy and die.

How Does iLux Work?
iLux uses targeted heating and compression to restore dysfunctional meibomian glands to their optimal health.
